Oliver, I have seen this problem on boats with OAK interiors. The owner will
place a dehumidifier in the boat and the oak will checker very rapidly.
Normally happens when the owner buys one of the fancy stainless powered
dehumidifiers. The solid wood components have the issue not the veneer. Your
are correct, the one I am thinking of did have the oak sealed and not oiled.
