[A/S] Restored Airstreams

There is a restored 1959 Airstream on EBay with a starting bid of 
$19,999. I was amazed! Is there really that much of a market for 
Airstreams like that?

I understand the appeal of an older Airstream, but I would think that 
a good deal of the pleasure of owning an older trailer would come from 
restoring it yourself. If you were going to pay that kind of money, 
why not buy a later model with all the newer bells and whistles.

I don't get it.

I know the old saying "they don't build'em like that anymore", but 
there is a reason for that and it's more than economics.
