I used an older 2500 Surburban with a 454 to tow an older 31 ft.  Airstream.  
It did a great job in the flat land and in the mountains out  west.  The 
mileage wasn't anything to brag about, but it did a great job  WITHOUT a Hensley.
 
The newer Surburban with the 8.1 should do a great job with any  Airstream.
