Hi Bill B,
I recently had to replace the jack on my 1998 34' Limited Front Kitchen,
because the original jack got bent when the trailer slid off about a foot
tall stack of leveling blocks. The jack still worked, but really moaned and
groaned as it pulled the very slightly bowed shaft up into the jack body. I
was afraid it would fail me some time when I was in a hurry and it was
pouring rain. I had the jack replaced at my Airstream dealer while I was
having the wheels and brakes reworked. The new jack is connected directly to
the battery through a auto reset circuit breaker. This is easy in my case
sense the batteries are located in compartments about 3 feet from the jack.
I don't remember the brand name on the new jack, but it is rated for 500
pounds more than the original, and has a leveling bubble on top of the head.
It has worked great for about a year now. The year has included two
caravans, and lots of other trips that required lots of use of the jack. It
will jack up the trailer and the back of the truck until the truck wheels
are almost off the ground. I do this to get front to back leveling sometimes
when the camp site is very unlevel and I don't want to unhook just to spend
the night.
