As far as tax, get a temp tag from the dealer (or DMV) and register it in 
your home state.  Avoids double sales tax and entirely legal (and the 
insurance is probably cheaper at home rather than Florida).  Have bought for 
my parents before and licensed out of state.

If you wait til late March to April in Florida, some of the snowbirds that 
do not intend to return the following year due to various reasons (health, 
age, driving abilities) sell off at that time.  Can usually pick up some 
good deals at the end of the snowbird season!  And the west coast is much 
better than the east coast from my experience!
