Actually, if it is in the sun long enough, you won't need the hair dryer, 
but you will need the mineral spirits.  We are removing the black and silver 
stripes around the "waistline" of our '88 Limited.  It is a combination of 
several width strips, the original of which was "woodgrain". It had faded, 
then peeled off from wind as we drove.  We tried to remove only the 
woodgrain center, but underneath is black and edges of it and the other 
strips sometimes come with it, so the entire section is coming off.  So far 
we've used only the sun but that's because we only do a few inches at a 
time.  We don't intend to replace it with original,and our flexible insert 
is black.  If it looks good enough after the mineral spirits, we may not put 
anything there.
