         It only takes a few minutes to heat the 6-gallons of
water.  Leaving the water heater switch on all the time wastes propane, but
won't hurt anything.  If the red light comes on, that means the water
heater has shut off.  If you still need hot water, you should turn the
switch to "off," then back to on.  You may have to do this more than
once.  If you are through with the heater anyhow, just turn it off.
         When you turn it on with a cold tank, the red light *should* come
on at first; then, you should hear a "thunk" as the lighter operates, and
the red light should turn off.
         If it stays on, no matter what you do, the water may be hot
already; try again when you know the water is cold.  If it still stays on
despite your efforts, have the heater serviced.
