I flush my complete system, blow the lines, put anti-freeze in the fresh tank, run 
through the system until every faucet runs pink & foamy, then I come back and pour 
extra in the traps.Make sure I've run enough through the drains to take care of the 
water trapped in the drain line (gray). Over the years, I had two freeze problems, 
gray water drain froze and one toilet valve froze. Now I make sure valve is propped 
open.
  I do drain the water heater.
