Excellent point Jay, I forgot to mention that.  The trailer is 
isolated from the truck on mine too.  That one had me going nuts for 
a few moments when my first trailer short hit.  Also look for fuses 
in the fuse box under the hood, as well as relays.

There can be a blown fuse and the light still work on the truck. 
There are certain fuses for towing uses only.What I'm saying is the 
tail light on the truck might work you get no fire to the towing 
lights. 

That's where the trailer simulator I spoke of is a nice touch.  LEDs 
take the place of the trailer so you can isolate problems in the 
truck and address them before going nuts over trailer.

Nuts of course being the operative word.  ;^)>

Actually I didn't make that clear, my description is as if you are 
the truck looking back at the trailer.  The diagramme in the files 
section shows both connections, from the cable end, hence truck is 
looking OUT at trailer and trailer is looking BACK TOWARDS truck.  
If you look at the weather cap on the truck plug you will see the 
pinout (without colour code IIRC).  The truck colours match the 
contemporary trailer colours which are in currently (no pun 
intended) produced 7 conductor umbilical cable.  

Incidentally the lighting wires are #14, the brake #12 and 12Vdc are 
#10 guage conductors, so if your trailer is properly wired the sizes 
may be a clue as to their use even if the colours are not per 
today's standard.
