RE: [A/S] Water Pump
Hi Verna,
The way you described the problem, it could be your city water pressure is
higher than the shut off pressure for the pump. That would keep your pump
from running until the pressure drops below the start pressure. The small
air tank just supplies some very small constant pressure on the water line
to cut down on seeing pulsations in the pressure when the pump runs. It acts
like a shock absorber in the line. I can usually get about a half cup of
water out of my system before the pump kicks on, That pressure to force out
that 1/2 cup of water is mostly from that little air tank (it is called an
accumulator tank).
