[A/S] Re:LP gas detector

I have heard that LP gas detectors are unreliable and only 
last a year or so.  We bought a new one from Camping World 
and installed it in our '90 to replace the original one. 
 It seemed to work ok for the first year but then it 
started going off frequently and I could find no propane 
leak anywhere.  Finally it just started going off all the 
time even when the trailer had sat for several weeks with 
the propane tanks shut off.

How reliable are these detectors and how long can they be 
expected to last?
