On the subject of mice, I recently set a few regular
traps using peanut butter as bait.  Each morning the
bait would be gone, but no trapped mice.  The sticky
paper catches not only mice but other small critters
as well.

Farmers in the past treated some grain with plaster of
paris and salt, then made sure some water was readily
available.

One store owner was plagued by a mouse in a show
window - he drew a picture of a mouse trap and left it
in the window - the next morning in it was a picture
of a mouse.
