Re: [A/S] Counter Intuitive Fuel Cost Saving Tip

However, most modern engines (within the last few years) use computerized
engine management systems which dynamically control the spark advance to the
current, instantaneous, operating conditions. They dynamically advance the
spark (ignition timing) as much as possible without causing pre-ignition
(ping)

Hi Oliver
This is very true. I added to my Van an MSD ignition system with a manual
spark control inside. I can advance the spark down and up 15 degrees. Its great.
I use premium and get more power and better mileage that way. On hills where
older vehicles tend to ping with pre set ignition timing I can back mine off
a bit and then on down hills and straight always advance it back up. I know
I get more power for sure that way as I tested it on cruise control. When I
set the cruise, if I advance the timing just short of pinging I go up to 5
miles and hour faster, that indicates a more complete burning of the fuel in the
 cylinders.
I hope and pray the cost goes down for us all on fuel!
