Last year I repacked my wheel bearings and noticed that some of the
bearing assemblies looked a little sloppy, although none of the rollers
were in danger of falling out.
I plan to replace all the bearings later this year, but would like to
know the easiest way to remove and install new races in the brake drums
myself.
I've replaced races that were pressed into a brake rotor a long time
ago. At that time I used a punch to carefully tap them out without
damaging the bore of the rotor and then beat the new ones into place
with a hammer and a block of solid maple that I had whittled down to
the proper size. That was a real hassle and I wanted to know if there
is an easier way such as a hand cranked tool similar to a gear puller,
and I'd even consider buying a small hydraulic press that uses a bottle
jack.
