I guess the question comes to mind, why haven't the
hitch manufacturers come out with recommendations in
this matter?  I remember having a long talk and email
sessions with Reese technical support.  They seem to
espouse the theory of matching the hitch weight with
the bar ratings.  If we are poping rivets then I'm
sure the SOB's out there are receiving significant
problems also.

I know with the 1125 hitch weight of my Classic, I had
to put an Equal-i-zer hitch on which can handle 1,400
lbs.  The bars that are used are rated equally the
same.  Now on my 3/4 ton van, those bars make a big
difference in raising the van to the proper towing
height.  The questions begs to answer is how do you
know for sure how much to cut back on the bars in lieu
of the tow vehicle suspension?  Obviously if you
underestimate, you stand a chance of snapping a bar
when you hit a dip in the road.

You would think that there would have been some
analysis done by the hitch manufacturers....or are you
a voice in the wilderness on this Andy?  :)
