John,

I had a '94 3/4 ton Suburban with the square support tube type receiver
and it developed cracks on both sides at the corners where that square
tube is welded into the side plates.  I now have an '03 Silverado 3/4
ton HD and the round support tube type receiver felt like it was flexing
to me.  So, I replaced it with a Reese Titan class V.  End of problem.

Better to error on the side of caution when safety is concerned,
