         My '84 also had the square hitch.    My '99 also has the square 
one.  I haven't seen the ones with the round cross piece on 'burbs; are 
they something new?
         So far as which one is the one with problems, I don't exactly know 
which ones they are.  Doug Showker just said - a couple of years ago - that 
some of the GM ones had problems.  I don't think anyone knows exactly which 
ones...it's probably a statistical problem.  If you don't see any cracks or 
really suspicious looking welds, and you keep the bolts torqued up, you're 
probably ok with your hitch.  And, don't be scared by the "probably" in 
that last sentence; the odds against problems are pretty high, but the 
small uncertainty can be removed by diligent attention to the receiver.
