RE: [A/S] advice making new curtains please!/slipcovers

Last month, I finished a tapestry slipcover for the front sofa of my '73 31'
Airstream Sovereign. The old slipcover was water-damaged. I pulled the
threads from the old slipcover and used the pieces for a pattern. I bought
tapestry material at Joanne's on sale and also bought a great book on
upholstering at Half Priced Books and a Bernina sewing machine. I
substituted Velcro for the zipper because it was easier to sew and hidden in
the back anyway. I reused the 4" foam, but bought new cotton wadding and
sewed in cording along the seams. Cost was about $75 not counting the book
and sewing machine. 

Following that, I sewed double axle wheel covers (to keep the UV rays off
the tires) from dark blue naugahide with 1# lead weights to hold them in
place. Cost was about $45. 

After I replace part of the floor and the kitchen counter, I'll sew/repair
curtains. My suggestion would be to use your old curtains for the pattern.
The library should have some good books to help you get started and estimate
material. Definitely line the back of your curtains and a sun blocker would
be a plus. My Airstream gets pretty hot parked in the summer. 

I plan to hit the road with it to Montana, Colorado and New Mexico this
Fall.
