I also adjust my own with the "brake spoon" that you can buy at any 
auto parts store.

After properly jacking up the trailer, click the adjuster while 
regularly checking/rotating the wheel until the wheel locks up.  Then 
click the adjuster the opposite way until the wheel turns freely with 
no sound or feel of anything inside dragging.  That's usually about 
12 -15 clicks.

After that you will need to recalibrate your brake controller.  I 
greatly improved my stopping distance after doing the work described 
above.
