Patti,
While I totally agree with your logic on solar, there are just times when a
genset makes sense.  My philosophy is to decide if boondocking is a
considerable part of anticipated useage.  If boondocking in hotter climates,
then a genset makes more sense (ie to run the AC), otherwise solar is the
way to go.  Ideally, having both gives the greatest set of options.  When I
was making the decision as to whether solar or genset initially, solar won
and I have not regretted the decision.  But there have been times that I
have realized it would be great to have a little Honda EU2000s or two.  We
would have done more boondocking down here in the heat of Texas had we had
the gensets, but then again, we typically head for cooler climates for most
of our boondocking and stay in state parks with electricity here in Texas.
Not a bad compromise, but again, the Honda EU2000 is high on my want list.
