I can't speak for all model Airstreams, but I found out that the step
assembly on my 1976 will not work with a "Step Support" like described
above. The 2nd step folds down and is supported by the first step that locks
in place on the trailer. When a step support is used under the 2nd step its
possible that the first step will disengage from its locking position and
the entire step collapses. Believe me I had this happen and just luckily I
was able to grab the side of the door before falling flat on my face on a
concert slab. This was not a fluke, I found out that it would do this when
weight was put on the 2nd step and since it could not "give" it causes the
first step to fold in.
Be warned, be careful.
