My understanding is that Allison is forbidden to sell their transmissions to
Ford or Chrysler -- except for the really large trucks like Freightliner.
Allison used to be a GM company, but now I understand Penske owns them --
but part of the sales deal was that they still not sell to Ford or Chrysler
for pickups or light trucks.

The Allison transmission was one of the deal breakers when I bought my
Duramax.  When I bought my 2004 Sierra, Dodge had totally given up even
offering an automatic transmission with the Cummins because it just blew
through all the ones they'd tried.
