I think you have been lucky indeed, judging by the number and nature of the
threads on Goodyear Marathons
at the Vintage Airstream E-mail list I think they are clearly the wrong
tires for the older trailers. Similar problems have also been noted on
Avions. But I will say that I ran some on my '76 Caravanner for several
years with no problems either. I think that at times they have been good
tires, but the lower wider profile and lack of sidewall strength compared to
the old 7.00X15 bias ply tires means more damage when they do blow, greater
probability of damage if you "kiss" a curb somewhere and a tendency to
scrape the rear end of the trailer in certain driveway profiles.
