i looked for a q steer to test drive for about 6 weeks. visited or contacted 3 
dozen dealers....and not a one in sight.....they would only special order them 
and every sales person i talked with either discouraged me from ordering or 
didn't know anything useful about the system. finally called a gm executive and 
he let it slip about the discontined future of q steer.
 
you can still order it on new 05s....but again order must be in the system soon.
 
clearly it's a great idea and pretty nice design....not at all like the honda 
system that also was short lived. 
initally it was a >4000$ option and could not be had with diesel, so it was 
expensive and not available for the  big towing needs. 
this last year price was reduced to 2000$ but most dealers have never stocked 
samples so who wants to order what they cannot try first........now that it's l
eaving will the gm mechanics even know how to care for it?
 
delphi, who makes it, was not allowed to market it to other brands, which hurt 
the growth of the system....now they can and we may see it again in the next few 
years....if delphi pulls out of it's current nose dive on wall street.
 
i think it would most useful to folks using the t.v. in urban areas with tight 
parking/cornering issues. it also likely appeals to people unused to a big truck 
(like me) and worried about driving/backing and such. i'm a rookie to towing but 
opted instead for a ford superduty crewcab long bed diesel.....a hugh truck; 
these are about 22 feet long.....and after a few weeks, i can manage it like my 
2 seater roadster.
 
so don't worry about missing out on q steer.....first decide on a trailer and 
then shop for a tow rig with approx 20% greater capacity than the trailer 
loaded....that way you'll have some room to carry lots and grow the 
trailers....one thing i've learned is buy as long a trailer as you can afford; 
don't think smaller is better....the long ones tow easier and everyone wishes 
they had just 2 more feet of room. if the t.v. doesn't have any extra towing 
capacity, moving up in trailer sizes will mean 2 purchases again.
