RE: [A/S] Paid Dues Tent Camping

Years before my family got into the A/S lifestyle, our extended family
(about 25-30 all together) always went tent camping at least once a year.
It was an absolute blast from my perspective.  We never slept on the ground
as my Dad had made risers with link springs which put us about 12" up.  We
slept on air mattresses with sleeping bags.  Always had huge roaring fires,
great food and the fellowship was what memories are made of.  Slowly, one,
by one, everyone got one type of RV or another and the group camping ended.
While there were still good times, they were never the same.  As a young
adult, I returned to tent camping with all the amenities that could be found
while still maintaining the ability to get off the beaten trail. Having both
A/Sing and tenting in my blood, I have always had mixed emotions as to which
offers the best opportunities for enjoying the great outdoors.  What we have
found is that we still spend the overwhelming majority of our time outdoors
rather than inside the A/S.  We have dual full sized awnings, so we have
lots of space to stretch out in a folding recliner, with a cool brew and
just enjoy the fresh air.  We also tend to cook and eat more outdoors than
inside.  It is great to have the warm bed,  hot shower, entertainment (ie
A/V) that the A/S offers, but our whole justification for the A/S is to get
outdoors and away from the routine of city life.
