No, it will work as well on you new Suburban. In fact the Suburban came 
with a wiring harness which makes installing it a 15 minute job. Locate 
the small box, either in the glove box or under the front seat, read and 
follow the directions.

    The easiest way to locate the box to hook up a brake controller on a Suburban (00 & newer) is to look forward of the emergency brake. You'll see a plastic covered box.
The cover is supposed to snap right off, but some are a real pain in the --- and you may end up using a screw driver to pry the tabs back a little.
