RE: [A/S] Brakesmart Controller - anybody have one?

Hi Tom,
I have one that I put on my 2004 GMC truck in January of 2004. Later in the
year, I heard Hensley did not have them on their web site any more. I called
them to see what was up. I was told they were having trouble with their
supplier contract with Master Brake, and had temporarily stopped selling
them. They said they would take care of any customer support for the units
they had sold, and hoped to get their contract straightened out to start
selling them sometime in the future.

You know you can get the same unit, except in colors other than the bright
Hensley orange, from Master Brake. Go to http://www.masterbrake.com/
and check them out. There looked like there was a big difference in the
price from Hensley and Master Brake, but the Master Brake price was for the
controller only. You had to purchase the transducer and wiring harness
separately from them. Hensley's price included everything you needed to do
the job. Someone on the list indicated there was little difference in the
price of an installed setup from the two dealers.
I have been very satisfied with my unit once I got the latest version of the
controller - some of the early units sold by Hensley was missing an added
feature that allowed you to set some amount of "per breaking" as soon as the
tow vehicle's break lights come on. This pre braking feature kept the slack
out of the hitch until the transducer control caught up with the breaking
needs. You would probably not notice the outage if you did not have a
Hensley Hitch. I did a loooooong post on this need and the Hensley Hitch not
long ago.
