Go to www.pulsetech.com and they have an explanation concerning pulses sent 
to the battery which shocks the plates.  It knocks the accumulation of 
sulphur off plates.  I use a 5 watt PulseTech Solargizer solar 
charger/maintainer and it has worked great.  They also offer a 10 watt 
version.  BatteryMinder also offers several chargers with this technology.
