Tom, I can assure you that if a insurance company finds out you
switched plates or ID tags on anything you tow and you have a accident
you are at risk. What you are towing still has to be roadworthy and
the same as identified as on the title and registration, otherwise you
could tow a steel beam down road with a plate stuck on it and not have
a problem. If your a gambling man go for it.

BTW you best look into your insurance, I carry Liability insurance on
my trailer. If I park my trailer somewhere 500 miles from my home and
someone trips over the step and breaks their leg I want the extra
coverage.
