Hi,

I had a 96 Suburban with the same rear end and a 5.7 ...it too was a 1500.

I towed my trailer with it and wasn't happy on hills.  It just didn't have 
enough oomph.

My trailer weighed around 6,000#.

My suggestion is to go with a vintage trailer, or a new Safari which is an 
Airstream "lite"
