Re: [A/S] Deep Tinted windows - etc.
Greetings Patti!
I can only imagine the turmoil that you must be in - - my move was
completed on October 1st, and I wouldn't have wanted to add a new
vehicle purchase to that stress.
Prior to purchasing my Suburban, I towed with a K1500 Chevrolet Z71
Extended cab with the deep tint windows and installed a Leer cab
heigh topper with deep tinted windows as well. I never had any
particular problems seeing out of the truck through the topper - -
and I only noticed a very slight reduction in what I could see
through my Overlander. The side windows were the one place that I
often wished that I would have splurged for the units that flipped
up from the outside so that it was possible to access the bed of the
truck from the sides (so far as being able to see through them was
never a particular issue). If you have reseravations about being
able to see through the center of the topper, I know that Leer
offered the option of front/rear clear windows just for this reason -
- with the clear rear window, it wasn't immediately noticeable that
it didn't match the deep tint on the side window (I didn't have the
option on my topper, but one of my neighbors did). The Leer topper
that I had attached to the bed rails with a series of three
specialized clamps on each side and one along the front rail.
I too had thought that I might want to remove the topper
periodically, but when I watched the two installers struggle with
the final alignment and installation of the topper on my truck I
decided it was something that I would never want to try to undertake
solo.
I hope that you enjoy your switch from Suburban to pickup as much as
I have enjoyed my switch from pickup to Suburban. I have absolutely
no regrets about my switch and wouldn't consider going back.
Good luck with your new truck and your pending move - - I know first-
hand how stressful the move process can be for a free wheeler.
