As a suggestion, Look at Leer truck caps. In 1986 I bought a brand new Ford 
full size long bed 4x4 Custom pickup truck that had all the comforts 
including the silver gray/black two tone paint job. This is a standard cab 
truck, not extended or crew cab.

As soon as the truck was registered, at the Ford dealer's recommendation, I 
drove it directly to the local Leer truck cap dealer and had the matching 
color fiberglass truck cap with deep tinted windows (I have Labrador dogs) 
put on it. 19 years and 150 thousand miles later, the cap has stood up 
better than the truck has although both are still going strong. The cap has 
been one of my best and most satisfying choices. It has the long sliding 
windows in the sides with screens and has worked out extremely well.

With the rear window in the truck opening on slides, and the one in the cap 
doing the same, the dogs can hop between the back of the truck and the cab 
or be restrained as I wish.  In heavy rainy weather I can lean or crawl 
into the back of the truck from the cab to get tools as I always carry 
several tool boxes and keep them up back of the cab for the most part.

With the long side windows, visibility is excellent out of the back while 
driving, the dark tint of the glass is NOT a problem, I actually like it 
and recommend it to anyone.

If there is one thing I would do differently, it is the side windows, I'd 
like my next cap to have the ones that open upward as doors. As nice as my 
present set up is for the dogs, I'd take a hard look at the ones that are 
split in the middle and can be opened either the front half or the back 
half independently. The only thing is, with the sliding ones, in hot 
weather I can drive with them open and the screens keep the dogs in and 
with the window behind the cab open, there is excellent air flow through 
the back of the truck and I'm not sure this can be done with the ones that 
open outward independently. I guess it will be a choice I will have to 
investigate when the time comes.

By the way, Willie, my male Labrador will be fifteen on Sunday 16 Jan and 
still is going strong...
