I have a 34 (narrow) and have never run into a problem at any "Airstream" 
park. In fact, only parks where I remember this being a problem is in some 
old state parks in the northeast and a state or national park I remember in 
Alaska. These always warn you before you enter about the size restriction.

I agree with your decision to not worry about length. Size matters, but not 
when you are pulling or parking. We started with a 18 SOB, then progressed 
from 26 to 34 foot Airstreams. I never found any significant downside to 
the bigger ones, and much nicer to live in.
