Hi Ben,
I think the word "NEED' could be misused in this case. I "NEED' 4 WD on my
tow vehicle because I HATE to get stuck or fail to go where I want to go. I
feel I purchased my Airstream to see this beautiful country of ours, and
that includes some places that are not paved and flat. I have been stuck in
two campsites in Alaska, one campsite in Nova Scotia, one campsite in New
York, and one in Canada in my quest of "seeing the country". All of these
times of being stuck were while I had my last truck that was 2 wheel dive.
It was an excellent tow vehicle except for that. I may get stuck many times
with my present truck that is 4 wheel drive, but I will feel much more
confident as I venture off the beaten path, and into some campsites that are
to soft for my 34' Limited to negotiate with only a 2 wheel drive tow
vehicle. I will enjoy my travels much more by not having to worry about
getting stuck nearly as easily as before. Does that constitute a "NEED" for
4 wheel drive in your mind?? It may be OK in your mind to always stick to
the "high and dry ground" and calling the tow truck when you get stuck,
which would make the "NEED" for 4 wheel drive seem like a waste of your
money. Therefore, I have trouble separating "NEED" from "WANT" from
"ENJOYING" in this case, and you will have to make up your own mind about
this question.

Last, but not least, enough people seem to have the "NEED" for a 4 wheel
drive truck that you will get a much higher trade in if your used truck is
equipped with it. I found this out the hard way when I traded the last truck
for my present one. I found out I could have gotten more than my initial
investment back at the time to trade.

I don't know of any more words to wrap around the subject, so I will stop
trying for now.
