I would very much recommend purchasing insurance, older Airstreams are being
stolen all over the place. I experienced this up close and personal last
summer when my '76 Caravanner that I had spent several years work and many
$1000s on was stolen. My carrier (Nationwide) tried to devalue my coverage
but older trailers have no book value for them to use. Document as much as
you can of what you have spent and take extensive photos of the trailers
condition (photos saved me and I got the full coverage value). Search for a
carrier that will allow you to state the amount of coverage you want, they
do exist. RV insurance is quite reasonable, when I recently purchased an
1961 Avion 20ft Tourist to replace my lost Airstream I searched for the best
insurance deal I could find and bypassed Nationwide because they took over 3
months to settle my last claim and I found Foremost on the web, I was able
to state the value and also got contents (4000 value, 2000 contents was only
$159 a year)
