Another possibility I've thought of for urban boondocking is parking 
in a private parking lot.  WalMart comes to mind, but how about 
parking in the lot of an office building where everyone has gone home 
for the day, and pulling out at first light?

Some of the other parking stories I've read hear bring back 
unpleasant memories.  While living in Berea (south of Cleveland, OH) 
for one year, we lived in an apartment complex that only had one 
assigned parking space per apartment and maybe about four other "free 
spaces" for visitors.  Problem was that we had two vehicles.

At first we parked one out on the street to be considerate of others 
in the complex, but one night the car on the street was ticketed.  
Turned out you can't park overnight on the street anywhere in Berea.  
The apartment manager should have warned us.  

Anyway, we came up with a system where the first one home parked in a 
free space.  If both of us were home, one peron was going out and 
happened to be parked in a free space, we'd go out and shuffle the 
vehicles.  Why not just take the vehicle in the assigned space?  My 
sweetie doesn't drive a standard shift.

One more comment about that U-Haul trailer on the street for 3 
hours... what a joke!  Especially at an apartment where you know 
people will constantly be moving in and out.  I guess you have to 
have a big crew of friends and relatives to get you pcked or unpacked 
in a hurry.  I can imagine cops cruising by all the apartment 
buildings on weekends like meter maids.
