I learned this year that low voltage can make a microwave act goofy... 
Ours started out normal and you could hear it switch gears and go to 
lower power... I think Mary was thinking time for new, but at the next 
location it worked fine...

I would recommend forgetting about the microwave if you have a tenuous 
AC drop... like several "too small" extension cords...
