[A/S] Replacing plastic "skylight" on aluminum vent lid

If you follow the links on this web site, you can see one page where 
the owner of a vintage trailer replaced the rotting translucent panel 
on his forward aluminum vent lid with a piece of Lexan.

I have the same problem and this guy's idea looked like a good one.  
However, no detail was given on if he just glued the Lexan in place, 
or used rivets and sealant.  Email address was no longer vaild.

Since I'm sure others here have had the same problem, did you just 
install a new solid aluminum lid, or replace the plastic panel?  If 
you replaced the panel, what did you fasten and seal it with?
