My 1977 Lincoln has a C6, 3 speed auto, I don't think that the overdrive 
transmissions came out until they downsized the cars in 1980.  It does 
have plenty of power and mileage of 8 around town, 10 towing on flat 
ground and 13 on the highway without the trailer. Better than my 1973 
Dodge W200 PowerWagon.  I think that the transmissions in the 1970's 
cars are bulletproof if you change the fluid and don't let them get 
overheated, remember the cars weighed over 5000 lbs alone.
