[A/S] Re: '70's FoMoCo tow vehicles

For several years Ford had a 460 CID engine in their big sedans. They could
handle anything A/S built up to that time. LOTS of power, good brakes,
terrible gas mileage, but real problems towing in Overdrive caused damaged
transmissions. (This is my anecdotal impression, based in part on my '74
Mercury Marquis and my dad's '73 Lincoln Town Car.)

Also, the long distance from the rear axle to the hitch ball required
knowledgeable loading (of the hitch ball weight, trailer weight distribution,
etc.) and a weight distributing/sway controlling hitch, topics which have been
discussed at length in this forum.
