My manual on my 1500 '99 Chevy van with the 5.7 liter
V8 and 3.73 rear end said to tow in third (no OD).  My
manual on my 2500 '03 GMC 6.0 liter 4.10 rear end says
OD is ok unless you experience excessive hunting.  I'm
sure that fellow's 1500 Avalanche probably said no OD.
 The difference between 1500 and 2500 vehicles from GM
is substantial.
