Hi Will,
I had a 2000 GMC Sierra Extended Cab 2 wheel drive 2500 with a Vortec 6000
Engine and what ever 4 speed automatic transmission that comes standard with
that engine. I pulled my 34' Limited Airstream (9000+ pounds when ready to
roll for long trips) a little over 50,000 miles, that covered almost all of
US and Canada. The truck was OUTSTANDING - I never lost one minute of time
because of truck troubles. I always towed in overdrive and maintained normal
highway speeds up to 75 MPH on the straight Interstates. I just traded the
truck in on a 2004 GMC Sierra Crew Cab 4X4 2500 HD with my first ever Diesel
engine and the Allison Transmission. I look forward to this truck giving me
as good of service as the last one for a longer period of time.
I don't know about the Avalanche (SP?) from Chevy, but know the Silverado
2500 is the same truck as the GMC. I also know there is a huge difference in
the size and beefiness of almost everything on a 2500 series truck over the
1500 series. The frame, suspension, brakes, and just about everything that
pertains to making a good or bad tow vehicle is sturdier on the 2500 Series.
