[A/S] Re: stained bathroom sink
Hi Christopher-
I chose to replace the bathroom sink and counter in our '79. The
material is molded plastic, and stains (and fading from sun which was
more prevalent with ours) seem very tenacious. After removing the
counter I spent some time messing with it: no treatments an no amount
of scrubbing improved its condition. 2-part epoxy paint is the only
permanent solution IMHO. So I replaced it with baltic birch plywood
with 4 coats of oil modified urethane (my home kitchen counters are
also wood thusly finished for 4 years and look as good as the day I put
them in), with a self-rimming 14" round stainless sink. While not
original, I think the replacement looks tons better and will
out-perform the plastic over time.
Good luck,
Chris K.
