[A/S] Stained bathroom sink

My 1979 International has a bathroom sink molded into the counter 
top, which is about 3' long.  This unit is all one piece of molded 
yellow plastic.

The sink has some dark stains as if someone dumped some high test 
coffee down the drain and it splattered all over.  Some stains on 
counter top as well.

I've tried to clean this with regular spray cleaners, but there is no 
difference.  The surface of the sink basin is smooth, so fortunatly 
no one has tried to scrub it out with cleanser.

The owner's manual says that rubbing compound will remove stains, and 
I'm sure it will, but I'm concerned that the cleaned areas won't 
match the rest of it, forcing me to rub down the whole thing.

Any suggestions?
