What I did was to first lay a good fat thick bead on the roof, then I 
put the white foam gasket on it, and then another layer of vulkem. On 
second thought maybe you better get two tubes.

Then I put the fan down on top of that. So it looked kind of like a 
gooey club sandwich. You can see in the picture that the gray Vulkem 
comes right up through the screw holes. So when I did put the screws in, 
the caulk oozed up around them. No need to put it on top of the screws 
after that, or to add any to the edges. You're really seating it in 
caulk, not adding it after it's screwed down.

There are other caulks you can use, but they need to be special for 
aluminum applications, and not eat the clear coat. I just like the messy 
stuff, and once you do it, you're good for decades.

Since the screws that go in from the top only go through the outer skin, 
no amount of screwing in would press the fan in like that. Unless the 
guy sat on it, or it was a replacement for a vent that was mashed into 
the skin.  It should just sit up there like a club sandwich on a plate.

If the skin is indented like that, it may be hard to get a good seal. I 
would want to see what that raw edge looks like, and I would probably be 
fairly cranky about the installation....do you suppose they cut the hole 
too big ? In that case, they need to put a patch of the correct skin 
over the hole and recut the opening for you, free.

Fantastic fan has a great customer service and they want you to love 
their fans forever. You might give them a yell.
