[A/S] 1976 closet door hinge/old vs new

I've owned many RV's, from a Nimrod to bus conversions and almost
everything in-between. One thing that has eluded me so far is an
Airstream and that is in my future. Over the decades rving has taught
me one thing, no matter what quality a unit is, it takes perpetual
maintenance. Granted some more than others, but if loose fixtures are
let go, rivets, and screws will pullout in time. You own a unit that
is 28 years old and if the previous owners were not maintenance
driven, be thankful loose doors are all you need to worry about.
Anything bouncing, twisting and turning in the elements for that long
is certainly a testament to quality.

Now on to the new/old thing, Anything over $100,000 I will buy used.
The instant depreciation is mind numbing. I do buy new if at all
possible. I like the clean look, smell, new valves, upholstery,
awnings, tires, on and on, and most of all warranty. The nostalgia of
the vintage units bring back tears of joy of my younger years. The
time and effort those people put into them is commendable, love to
see them out there. I loved my Scotty. (that was a fun unit) But,
like Hunter and others, push button hot water, heat, refrigerator,
sure beat slopping around in the rain to light a pilot that went out.
Something else I like about the older units and Airstream, is the
lack of glitz. At my age the last thing I need is mirrors on every
wall and ceiling. I want a homey place to live not a casino. AL
