Re: [A/S] Re: Tow vehicles for 28ft.

John, I pull a 1999 27 ft. Airstream Safari and use an extended cab, long
bed, 2500HD GMC 4 WD, Duramax/Allison. It is probably more truck than I need,
but before I had a 1995 1500 GMC 5.7 L, 3.73 rear end also with 4 WD. It did
not have enough power to safely pull our Airstream across the western mountains.
I continue to purchase trucks with 4 WD for the occasional times I have used
it to get out of a slick spot. I wouldn't say that 4 WD is necessary, but it
is sure nice when the wheels are slipping in 2 WD.

In general, I subscribe to the theory that the longer the tow vehicle the
better. With my 27 ft. Airstream, I have been very satisfied with the Reese dual
cam sway control. Keep in mind that the long bed GM truck gives you a larger
fuel tank. That is the only reason I chose a long bed. The overall length
of the truck is about 21 ft., it weighs just over 7000 pounds unloaded, and it
will get between 19 and 20 MPH without the Airstream on the Interstates.
