I'm not so sure about that. The a/c that comes into a house is different
that what comes
from a generator. The house a/c has three wires with a center ground and 110
on each side
to ground and 220 between the two hot wires. That's why a ground is needed
for a house
but the portable generator isn't set up that way is it? If anything it would
make more sense to
ground the generator to the trailer directly than to use spikes in the
earth.

I would go buy what the owner's manual says.
