I have a '99 F250 PSD 4x4.  Last summer at 78,000 miles I pretty much lost 
reverse. I limped back to Florida, using ull throughs, and had the whole tranny 
rebuilt to the tune of $3200.00.

I really put alot of strain on reverse before it started having problems..... 
backing uphill into tight spaces for example.  

People in the know say not to tow in hills or mountains in OD, I'll turn OD 
off from now on unless I'm on the flat.
