Paul,

Airstream never has anodized the aluminum used on their coaches. Up until the early 60's 
the hardening process was the only "protection" and the owner was expected to clean and 
wax their coach regularly. In the 60's the factory started applying a custom blended 
acrylic lacquer based "clearcote". Clearcote was applied to extend the interval for 
waxing the coach. Use of the clearcote continued until mid 98.
